Description

Little is known of Ruebric’s life before his arrival in Sanctuary, save for whispers carried by merchants and minstrels who claim he once wandered the mountain passes of Lavedan as a scholar, a healer, or perhaps something stranger. When he appeared one autumn evening at the edge of Tolosa, his cloak threadbare and his pack heavy with forest herbs, mushrooms, strange stones and a deck of well-worn tarot cards, few knew what to make of him. Yet within weeks, Ruebric had become a quiet fixture of the village—reading fortunes by the hearth, tending to the sick with wild herbs, and teaching the children the names of trees and stars.
Though middle-aged, Ruebric carries himself with the calm of one who has lived many lives. His voice is low and steady, and his eyes seem to hold both sorrow and understanding in equal measure. The villagers say the forest itself listens and whispers back when he speaks, and that the vines by his door curl toward his hands like old friends. Ruebric never confirms such tales, but he does not deny them either.
To those who seek his counsel, Ruebric offers wisdom not as prophecy, but as possibility—each card a reflection of the paths one might walk. He speaks of balance, of listening to the land, and of the unseen threads that bind all living things. Though his past remains cloaked in mystery, his presence has become a quiet blessing upon Sanctuary and Tolosa, where even the wind seems to pause when Ruebric lays his cards upon the table.
